Lower Leg Plaster

Backslabs in our ED are only for unstable fractures being admitted for ORIF. Most stable # are treated as an outpatient with a walking boot.  The old technique of applying a layer of wet cling bandage is no longer required and can lead to shrinkage (and risk of compartment syndrome) when it dries and shrinks up to 7% in circumference. 

Apply with ankle in 90 degrees of flexion

Avoid pressure points etc

At least 2 pairs of hands to apply...
