Intubation
We've been very lucky to have the world-renowned airway educator Richard Levitan give a series of courses in Glasgow. This checklist covers three main topics:
- Preparation prior to intubation
- Resuscitation
- Positioning
- Epiglottoscopy
- Stage 1: light grip, find uvula then advance midline until epiglottis found (only horizontal structure in the airway)
- Stage 2: switch to power grip and lift (when blade sited in vallecula)
- Stage 3: bimanual laryngoscopy to improve view if required
- Stage 4: head elevate to improve view if required
- Tube insertion: Rich has a preference for stylets but there are tips for both stylets and bougies
