Probably the most feared of all resus skills! Cutting a foetus from a mothers abdomen is a difficult scenario to train for procedurally and psychologically. But the potential rewards are great - you might just save two lives.
- You are doing it to save mum (you might save baby in the process)
- The earlier it is done the better the chance of a favourable outcome
- You need three high-functioning (and independent) teams working simultaneously
- Maternal ALS
- Neonatal Resus
- The procedure itself is fairly unrefined: cut, cut, cut, hand in, baby out.
