Quick Assessment of Neurological Status in Upper Limb Injuries
Here is a standardised transferrable and simple method of assessing motor function of the nerves of the hand- useful for ENPs and medical staff.
Using the ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS, OK hand movements, the Radial, Median, Ulnar and Anterior intra-osseous nerves are assessed.
Neurological assessment should involve a thorough motor, sensory and vascular examination.
Try this next time you are examining the hand! It is particularly useful for elderly patients, those with additional needs and those under the influence of alcohol of drugs.
